Mayher Announces Run for District 46 State Representative

Jenny Mayher of Newcastle has announced her candidacy for Maine House District 46, seeking the open seat currently held by Rep. Lydia Crafts, who is not running for a fourth term. Mayher is running as a Democrat and is currently collecting signatures to qualify for the ballot.

Mayher has spent more than two decades working and volunteering in midcoast Maine. She currently serves as Director of Communications at Lincoln Academy, a role she has held since 2014. Previously, she worked as a children’s librarian at Skidompha Library, running children and teen literacy programs.

In 2005 and 2006, Mayher helped lead a successful grassroots campaign to prevent the construction of a Wal-Mart supercenter in Damariscotta, resulting in the passage of a 35,000-square-foot cap on retail development. She later worked with residents in Newcastle, Nobleboro, and Edgecomb to pass similar local ordinances, demonstrating her commitment to community-led solutions and sustainable development.

In 2012 and 2013 she was part of the Great Salt Bay Playground Committee that raised the funds, designed, and built the GSB playground through a “barn raising” style build. She has also served on multiple local boards and volunteer committees including the boards of Healthy Kids and Lincoln Theater, the GSB PTO, and the Lincoln Academy Parent Association.

Mayher has lived in midcoast Maine since 2003 with her husband, Garrett Martin, and their two children, who are both graduates of Great Salt Bay School and Lincoln Academy.

“I would be honored to represent the people of District 46,” Mayher said. “This community has been an incredibly supportive place to live, work, and raise our family. I believe that our state government can make a real difference by tackling common-sense challenges like access to health care, affordable housing, childcare, and excellent schools, while also protecting the open land, clean water, and working waterfront that define our way of life.”

Mayher plans to begin meeting with voters across the district in the coming months to hear directly about their priorities and concerns. District 46 includes the towns of Damariscotta, Newcastle, Nobleboro, Bristol, and Monhegan.
